Dr Carecchio graduated in Medicine and Surgery and completed her training in Clinical Neurology in Italy. She spent part of her training as a senior research fellow to Prof Bhatia in Queen Square, London, where she developed an interest in rare movement disorders that has become her main research topic ever since. She did a PhD in Pediatric Movement disorders in Milan under the supervision of one of the main leaders in the field, Dr N. Nardocci, and published several papers in the field. Currently, she is Professor of Neurology at the Department of Neuroscience of Padua University; she is also consultant neurologist at the University hospital of Padua and vice-director of the ERN-RND centre. She is an active member of the International Parkinson Disease and Movement Disorder Society, co-chair of the Genetics Education & Resources committee, member of the rare neurological disease study group and of the pediatric movement disorders interest group. She was a member of the Italian movement disorders society executive committee, and member of the MDS ES educational committee.
