Dr. Roberta Balestrino is a Neurologist with a clinical and research focus on movement disorders, especially Parkinson’s disease. She currently works at San Raffaele Hospital, Milan (ITALY) where she is involved in patient care, research projects, and teaching activities. She completed her medical degree at San Raffaele University (Milan) and neurology training at the University of Turin, followed by a PhD at San Raffaele University (Milan). She has spent time abroad in Madrid, at Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII), and London, at University College London (UCL). Her main clinical interest is the management of Parkinson’s disease across different stages, including advanced therapies and rehabilitation. She believes in the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to care and in addressing the patient’s well-being from a broad perspective, including physical, psychological, and social aspects. With this in mind, she contributes to the development of initiatives and events that promote integrated, patient-centered care and support overall well-being. Dr. Balestrino is part of several clinical studies and collaborative projects in the field of movement disorders. Her research includes work on treatment outcomes, quality of life, genetics, advanced neuroimaging in Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders. She is also interested in the development and validation of clinical assessment tools. In addition to clinical work and research, she is passionate about education, and teaches medical students and residents and is involved in developing e-learning content in the EAN. She believes in accessible and practical medical education, and in the importance of teamwork in both clinical and academic settings. Outside of neurology, she is passionate about sport and the mountains. She enjoys climbing, skiing, and spending time outdoors, which she considers essential for balance and personal well-being.
